the Trip
flight delayed for 1 hour(Air Asia's speciality)...and 2 hours later...Miri! Tek Jee is on time to bring us for kon lo mee and crysanthemum in beer bottles! Met up with Gordon, Yee Leng and yeang wee whos on the way to kuching.

Day 2..1st time on board a Fokker 50 plane...the onli local tourist in a place full of Koreans..plane shakes everytime it passes some clouds..luckily its just 30 mins..if not i might need to use the vomit bag...

The Caves..
1. Lang's cave... the walk to the cave wasnt half as bad as climbing KK. our guide, a.k.a Mulu Micheal is a Penan. caves are all lighted up so u can easily see the cave structures inside. and for all caves...these are the basic things u'll see...

stalagtites- water dissolves CO2 and become acidic, then dissolves some rock, deposits some calcium carbonate as it drips down.. so u get a pointed rock hanging from the cave roof.

stalagmites- the water deposits CaCO3 on the rock below, and after millions of years..if forms a structure pointing upwards.

helectities- if wind constantly blows in one direction, then it forms a horizontal stalagtite. it always points to the cave entrance.

wall curtains

depending of season and minerals, these structuers will form things like wall curtains, old man's tooth, jellyfish..etc..names given according to shape.

2.Deer cave a.k.a guano galore
this is the worlds largest cave chamber! and u know ur there when u can smell the 'perfume' created by bats... theres millions of bats here..creating tons of bat shit aka guano.

abraham lincoln's face on the right
everything u see here is guano

at 6pm, bats stream out of the cave in an endless, wavy line. beautiful sight..
entrance of wind cave
3. Wind cave
next day, took a long boat ride to Penan village, the headhunting days are long gone.. and theyre christians now. its called wind cave cos at one point u can feel wind coming thru..

4. Lady cave
named so cos a rock at the entrance looks like a lady. some guy named Paris actually climbed up free handed to a small cave inside..its like a 20 meter drop followed by a 30 m vertical ascend.. so..that cave is named paris metro.
5. Clearwater cave
cos theres a river with clear water running thru it.. took a dip here in freezing cold water..

6. Great cavebird's nest
this is when we came back from Mulu. heres where archeological sites are found, and swallows' nest! all they need is just 1 bamboo...and they can climb 15m up to collect the nest... this is totally unguided..and at some parts..PITCH DARK!

7. Paintings cave.
the last wan... it seems like some ancient guys got too much time and painted some artwork on the wall..looks like some boat..u can onli guess..both this caves need 4-5 hours to walk...but with our semangat dash on the way back..we onli took less than 4 hours!

to be continued....
